Major Road Development Initiative in Morocco
On November 8, 2026, Morocco announced a substantial investment of 476.6 million dirhams from its Road Financing Fund for the year 2027, designated for the execution and monitoring of eight key road projects. This initiative encompasses nine provinces across four regions, with the strategic objective of improving connectivity among local communities and alleviating isolation in rural areas. Among the notable allocations, 61 million dirhams are earmarked for the completion of two critical projects: 21 million dirhams for the construction of provincial road number 3609 in Berrechid, and 40 million dirhams dedicated to a substantial engineering structure over the Moulouya River along provincial road number 5434 in Jerada.
Between 2008 and 2026, the Moroccan government has successfully financed approximately 200 road projects benefiting 113 municipalities across 19 provinces and seven regions, with a total length nearing 960 kilometers and a total expenditure of 970 million dirhams. Notably, in Benslimane, the cost of upgrading roads leading to the Grand Stadium reached 1.12 billion dirhams. This project includes the dualization of 17.34 kilometers of National Road No. 1 connecting Bouznika and Regional Road No. 313, alongside the reconstruction and dualization of an engineering structure.
The second national rural road program has achieved nearly 98% completion, benefiting over 15,000 villages across more than 730 rural municipalities. Future projects will be identified based on the readiness of studies, administrative procedures, priorities, and available financial resources. This comprehensive approach not only aims to enhance infrastructure but also to improve the living conditions of rural populations throughout Morocco.
