Major Development Projects Unveiled in Bir Gandouz and El Guergarat, Southern Morocco

Transformative Projects Launched in Southern Morocco

In a significant move to mark the first anniversary of Unity Day, a variety of economic, social, and sports-related projects were inaugurated in the heart of Bir Gandouz and at the El Guergarat border post in Southern Morocco. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to enhance the region's infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its residents. The activities included a range of projects, all designed to bolster commercial infrastructure, improve access to drinking water, bring administrative services closer to citizens, and enhance educational and sports facilities.

Among the notable developments was the inauguration of a solidarity market in Bir Gandouz, a project costing MAD 4.11 million. This initiative, funded by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Committee for Human Development, the Regional Council, and the Aousserd Provincial Council, aims to promote economic inclusion among young people. Covering an area of 1,798 m², including 1,009 square meters of indoor space, this market features commercial premises, indoor galleries, sanitary facilities, and landscaped areas. It is designed to provide traders and young entrepreneurs with organized commercial spaces, enhance marketing conditions for local products, stimulate the local economy, and create job opportunities, thereby improving the socio-economic conditions of the local population.

Furthermore, the Aousserd provincial directorate was inaugurated, which is part of a MAD 1.1 million project to develop the provincial delegation and establish two multiservice commercial agencies in Bir Gandouz and El Guergarat. This initiative aims to enhance the provision of essential services such as drinking water, electricity, and wastewater treatment, while also improving reception facilities and reducing waiting times for administrative processes.

In a bid to strengthen basic infrastructure, the first phase of a project to rehabilitate and upgrade the drinking water distribution network in Bir Gandouz was initiated, costing MAD 5.16 million. Financed by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Multiservice Company (SRM), this project has an implementation timeframe of eight months and will cover the Al Aouda 2 neighborhood. It aims to upgrade 7,800 meters of the network, renew 215 individual connections, and implement advanced flow measurement and regulation systems, significantly enhancing the quality and efficiency of the drinking water supply.

In the realm of sports, a new neighborhood sports ground was inaugurated in Bir Gandouz with an investment exceeding MAD 821,000, funded by the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports. This facility includes a 20-by-40-meter mini-football pitch with synthetic turf, fencing, and sports lighting, aimed at promoting sports participation and enhancing community interaction.

Additionally, a multimedia room was established at Abdellah Guennoun School in Bir Gandouz, equipped at a cost of MAD 160,000, supported by the Aousserd Provincial Committee for Human Development. This facility is designed to promote educational engagement and digital skills development among students, providing a space for interactive lessons and distance learning.

At the El Guergarat border crossing, an administrative annex for the Bir Gandouz caïdat was inaugurated at a total cost of MAD 1.414 million. This project, supervised by Aousserd Province, aims to enhance administrative proximity and improve service quality for users through the rehabilitation of facilities and the furnishing of offices.

Moreover, a new neighborhood sports ground was unveiled in El Guergarat, constructed with an investment of approximately MAD 873,000. Similar in design to the facility in Bir Gandouz, this 1,000 m² area includes a mini-football pitch, aiming to foster sports engagement among local youth.

On the social front, an initiative to distribute paramedical equipment to the Amal Association, which supports individuals with special needs, was also introduced. This effort, valued at MAD 50,000, aims to enhance the quality of services provided to disabled individuals, facilitating their mobility and social integration. Additionally, sports equipment worth MAD 30,000 was distributed to the El Guergarat Electronic Games Association, which is intended to cultivate the talents of children and encourage participation in sports, promoting values of solidarity and equal opportunity.
