Maghreb Fes Ends Partnership with Rui Almeida
In a significant development in Moroccan football, the renowned club Maghreb Fes has announced that it has mutually agreed to part ways with Portuguese coach Rui Almeida. This decision comes after a series of performances that did not meet the club's expectations at the onset of the season. The club released an official statement confirming the amicable separation but refrained from providing specific reasons for the decision. They expressed gratitude towards Almeida for his contributions during his tenure, despite the disappointing results on the pitch.
This change in management follows a challenging six-match stretch for Maghreb Fes in the Moroccan League, where the team managed only two victories and two draws, alongside two defeats. The most recent setback was a narrow loss to Wydad Témara, which likely accelerated the decision to seek a new direction for the team.
Samir Zakroumi Takes Over Temporarily
As the club looks for a permanent replacement, assistant coach Samir Zakroumi has been appointed to lead the first team in the interim. Zakroumi, who has previously coached the under-23 team and has a wealth of experience in Moroccan football, is tasked with preparing the squad for their upcoming match against Fath Union Sport. His familiarity with the players and the club’s ethos may provide the necessary stability during this transitional period.
Meanwhile, the management of Maghreb Fes has begun evaluating several candidates to fill the coaching position permanently. Among the names under consideration are South African David Vadillo, German Sid Ramovic, Brazilian Marcos Paquetá, Belgian Sven Vandenbroeck, Argentine Héctor Cúper, and Egyptian Tarek Mustafa. The club has also engaged in discussions with Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić, previously of Egypt's Pyramids FC, although negotiations have stalled due to financial disagreements regarding his salary and coaching staff.
The upcoming weeks will be crucial for Maghreb Fes as they aim to secure a coach who can revitalize the team and align with the club's ambitions moving forward. For now, all eyes will be on Zakroumi as he leads the team during this pivotal period.
