Morocco's Vision for Poultry Production by 2030

In a significant announcement made on November 4, 2026, during the 27th International Poultry Exhibition held at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Centre in El Jadida, Morocco's Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Khalid Hattami, unveiled the country’s strategic plan to elevate poultry production. Under the theme "The Poultry Sector in Morocco: A Date with 2030," this year’s exhibition is taking place under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the governor of El Jadida, Saleh Daha, and representatives from the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development (COMADER) as well as the National Federation of Poultry Sector Professionals.

According to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture, national poultry production reached approximately 828,000 tons in 2025, alongside a staggering 7.06 billion eggs for consumption. Such figures highlight Morocco’s ability to meet its domestic needs, with poultry meat accounting for about 55% of the total meat consumption in the country. Economically, the poultry sector generates an annual turnover of nearly 48 billion dirhams, providing direct employment for around 181,000 individuals and an additional 350,000 indirect jobs.

Investment and Growth Strategy for the Poultry Sector

The Moroccan government, in collaboration with the National Federation of Poultry Sector Professionals, has initiated an ambitious investment program as part of the "Green Generation 2020-2030" strategy. This program, which was formalized on May 4, 2023, features a total investment of 2.02 billion dirhams, with 1.4 billion dirhams contributed by the federation and 620 million dirhams from the state. The overarching goal of this initiative is to increase national poultry meat production to 912,000 tons and to raise the production of consumable eggs to approximately 7.6 billion units by 2030. This expansion is expected to create an additional 140,000 jobs, pushing the total employment opportunities within the sector to around 600,000.

The program encompasses a range of measures aimed at modernizing poultry farming units and enhancing productivity. It promotes local breeding initiatives, optimizes marketing channels, and ensures the humane treatment of animals in accordance with health standards. Additionally, the strategy focuses on developing projects around poultry slaughterhouses, cutting and packaging units, and egg processing facilities, while encouraging investment in feed production and hatchery operations. Strengthening health and technical support across all levels of the production chain is also a key priority.
