Workers Demand Justice: SAMIR Employees Rally for Rights in Morocco

Workers of SAMIR Demand Their Rights Amid Uncertain Future

On November 6, 2026, employees of the SAMIR oil refinery in Mohammedia, Morocco, gathered to express their grievances and demand the restoration of their rights. This protest comes in the wake of a history of neglect and uncertainty surrounding the company's future, which has remained unresolved since its judicial liquidation in March 2016. The Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) has emphasized the urgent need to stabilize workers' rights, ensuring protection in terms of wages, social security, and overall welfare.

The workers’ outcry follows a rally that took place on October 29, where discussions highlighted the precarious situation that employees at SAMIR are facing. The CDT union meeting held on November 6 aimed to address the ongoing neglect of workers’ rights and the alarming ambiguity of the company's operational status. The union holds successive governments accountable for the deteriorating conditions at SAMIR, urging immediate actions to safeguard the company’s physical assets and human resources, which are crucial for its revitalization.

The union has also vehemently rejected any allegations that undermine the economic viability of SAMIR. They assert that the Moroccan refinery is still capable of resuming its operations and significantly contributing to national fuel reserves while helping to mitigate rising fuel prices. In a bold move, the union has announced plans for another protest on November 26, 2026, reinforcing their commitment to reclaiming their rights and pushing for the restoration of the company's refining activities. They call upon all workers, retirees, and supporters of the SAMIR cause to participate vigorously in this peaceful demonstration.
