Morocco Launches Innovative Platforms for Reporting Adverse Health Effects
On November 2, 2026, Morocco's Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AMMPS) unveiled two groundbreaking digital platforms, VigiMobile and VigiUp, aimed at streamlining the process for reporting adverse effects associated with medicines and health products. This significant launch occurred in Rabat during the international Med Safety Week 2026, which runs from November 2 to 8 and carries the vital slogan, “Adverse events: don’t ignore them, report them.” The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the national health system, in alignment with the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, emphasizing the importance of health and medicine safety.
The event was graced by notable figures including the Secretary-General of the Health Ministry, the Director General of AMMPS, Samir Ahid, and various institutional officials and healthcare professionals. Health Minister Youns Bjijou articulated that VigiMobile is specifically designed to report adverse effects from medicines and vaccines, while VigiUp serves to track other health products, providing both professionals and citizens with user-friendly tools to enhance safety reporting.
In his address, AMMPS Director General Samir Ahid emphasized the necessity of establishing robust vigilance mechanisms, fostering a culture of reporting, and ensuring effective coordination between national and local stakeholders. He stressed that the digital transformation of health reporting systems should not merely be viewed as a technological advancement but rather as a means to simplify procedures for users, enhance the flow of critical information, and enable institutions to swiftly identify and respond to potential risks.
Ahid also highlighted the agency's commitment to modernizing its monitoring systems, which will enhance the early detection of risks. This modernization is pivotal for encouraging participation from both health professionals and the public in ensuring medicine safety. He asserted that the safety of medicines extends beyond mere marketing authorization; it necessitates ongoing monitoring and a collective readiness to act promptly in response to emerging safety concerns.
Furthermore, a panel discussion was held addressing how to engage every health professional in the mission of patient safety, underlining reporting as the cornerstone of vigilance. Throughout this awareness week, AMMPS is conducting national and regional initiatives, including educational sessions with university students and community events coordinated with the network of Regional Vigilance Centers. These efforts are aimed at building a more informed and proactive healthcare community in Morocco.
