Union Protests Against Management Conduct in Marrakech
The National Union of Higher Education at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Marrakech has recently escalated its protests, expressing deep dissatisfaction with the handling of discussions with representatives of the teaching staff during a meeting with the management of the Mohammed VI University Hospital. This meeting aimed to address several professional issues and updates related to the conditions of professors and doctors within the institution. The union issued a strongly worded statement condemning the encounter, which, according to them, lasted a mere ten minutes and ended in an atmosphere described as unacceptable. They pointed out that the management's approach during the meeting, accompanied by inappropriate directions and remarks deemed disrespectful to human dignity, failed to foster an environment conducive to responsible and serious dialogue.
Furthermore, the union emphasized that the meeting was convened following persistent requests from the local union office to initiate a direct discussion with the management regarding numerous pending issues. Among these pressing concerns are the professional and social conditions faced by faculty and medical staff, the challenges related to emergency healthcare services, the shortage of human resources and medical equipment, and the consequent impact on work conditions and healthcare service quality. The union believes that the events reflect a lack of necessary conditions for institutional dialogue, asserting that the representatives attended the meeting with a sense of responsibility and a desire to find practical solutions to the issues at hand, rather than to engage in confrontation with the management.
In light of these developments, the local union has called upon the responsible authorities to intervene urgently to address the situation and reopen channels for serious and responsible dialogue, to avert further tensions within the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Mohammed VI University Hospital. The statement also underscored the necessity to respect the professional and ethical frameworks that govern the relationship between management and staff representatives, fostering an institutional atmosphere based on communication, mutual respect, and accountability.
