Morocco to Create Over 840,000 New Jobs Ahead of World Cup 2030

Massive Job Creation and Economic Growth in Morocco

In a significant announcement, Morocco's Minister of Economy, Finance, and Public Efficiency, Fouzi Lekjaa, outlined the extensive economic benefits expected from the nation hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The event is projected to create over 840,000 new jobs, enhancing various sectors such as infrastructure, tourism, and construction. During a session of the Financial and Economic Development Committee of the House of Representatives, Lekjaa emphasized that the World Cup serves as a catalyst for infrastructural advancements across Morocco.

The ambitious plans include extending the high-speed train line from Kenitra to Marrakech, covering a distance of 430 kilometers, as well as establishing regional train services in several key regions including Casablanca-Settat, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, Marrakech-Safi, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima. Furthermore, the capacity of Casablanca's airport will be expanded through the construction of a new terminal and runway, along with the enhancement of airports in Tangier, Fez, Agadir, and Marrakech. A new continental road connecting the administrative capital of Rabat with the economic capital of Casablanca is also in the works, as reported by Moroccan news source, Al-Omq.

From 2023 to 2030, Morocco anticipates an annual growth rate of approximately 2.6%, which will positively impact the added value across various strategic sectors. The World Cup is expected to have a substantial impact on employment opportunities, particularly in sectors directly benefiting from investment, such as services, construction, hospitality, and restaurants. In addition to the job creation, the economic influence of the World Cup will extend to Morocco's tourism sector, with an expected influx of 26 million tourists by 2030. This surge is projected to elevate the tourism GDP to an impressive $19.2 billion (189 billion dirhams), generating over $15.9 billion (156 billion dirhams) in tourism revenues and creating an additional 150,000 job opportunities.

Anticipating a Bright Future for Moroccan Economy

The hosting of the 2030 World Cup is poised to be a transformative event for Morocco, not only in terms of job creation but also through the enhancement of the country's infrastructure and services. The government is committed to leveraging this opportunity to ensure sustainable economic growth and to position Morocco as a key player in the global tourism and sports sectors. The foresight of the Moroccan government in preparing for this monumental event signifies a strategic approach to economic development, promising a prosperous future for the nation's workforce and its economy as a whole.
