Significant Arrest in Kenitra
In a decisive move showcasing Morocco's commitment to international law enforcement cooperation, Moroccan police have apprehended a 27-year-old French national in Kenitra. This arrest was executed on Thursday in response to an international warrant issued by French judicial authorities, who suspect the individual of involvement in an attempted murder incident involving a firearm. The alleged crime, which has raised serious concerns in France, occurred in March 2025 in Montpellier, situated in the southern part of the country.
The suspect had been residing illegally in Morocco and was wanted under an Interpol Red Notice, solicited by the National Central Bureau in Paris. Following the arrest, Moroccan prosecutors have promptly initiated extradition proceedings to ensure that justice is served in France. Furthermore, the Interpol office in Rabat, functioning under the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), has been assigned the crucial task of informing French authorities about the suspect's detention, highlighting the ongoing commitment to international security cooperation.
Continuing Operations Against International Fugitives
This recent arrest is part of a broader series of operations aimed at capturing international fugitives. Just days prior, on October 31, Moroccan police successfully detained a 31-year-old French national in Marrakech, also under an Interpol Red Notice, for alleged involvement in kidnapping, unlawful detention, and attempted murder. Additionally, on November 2, a 21-year-old Portuguese man was arrested in Marrakech, wanted by French authorities for a suspected murder associated with rival drug trafficking networks in Bordeaux in December 2025. These operations underscore Morocco's proactive stance in international policing.
Earlier in October, a 23-year-old French national was detained at Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport due to an alleged attempted shooting in Paris in 2025. This individual was also sought under an Interpol Red Notice at the request of French officials. Such operations illustrate Morocco's extensive cooperation with international law enforcement agencies, a commitment that has led to remarkable results. According to Moroccan officials, between 2015 and 2025, Interpol collaboration has resulted in 855 arrests, including 467 foreign fugitives apprehended within Morocco and 388 suspects arrested abroad at Morocco's request. This impressive record demonstrates the effectiveness and importance of international police partnerships in ensuring global security.
