Robust Recovery at the Casablanca Stock Exchange
The Casablanca Stock Exchange in Morocco has experienced a significant rebound, marking a turning point after a challenging series of trading sessions. On November 5, 2026, the MASI index, which serves as a benchmark for the market, surged by 3.33%, closing at 17,317.91 points. This notable rise follows a five-day streak of declines, indicating a renewed investor confidence as the index once again surpasses the crucial 17,300-point mark. Earlier in the week, the index had found support around the 16,400-point zone, which is close to its lowest levels recorded in March of the same year. The MASI 20 index, which includes the leading market capitalizations, saw an even more pronounced increase of 3.44%, reaching 1,264.07 points. Additionally, thematic indices like the MASI ESG and the MASI Mid and Small Cap also closed in the green, with gains of 3.01% and 2.88%, respectively.
Over the course of just two trading sessions, the benchmark index has recovered a total of 5.65%. This upward momentum can be attributed to a relaxation observed in international markets following the results of the recent mid-term elections in the United States. Investors are particularly optimistic about a potential reduction in Donald Trump's maneuvering capabilities regarding Iran, following the Democratic victories in Congress. This recovery has facilitated a rise in the total market capitalization, which increased from 961.72 billion MAD on November 3 to 1,015.93 billion MAD as of November 5, representing a substantial gain of 54.21 billion MAD.
Market Dynamics and Notable Performers
This upward trend was accompanied by significant trading volumes, reaching 1.014 billion MAD, with 500 million MAD attributed to a block trade involving Managem. Excluding this transaction, the trading volume was around 514 million MAD. Major capitalizations played a pivotal role in driving the index upwards, with Attijariwafa Bank appreciating by 3.67%, Maroc Telecom by 5.21%, and Marsa Maroc by 3.86%. SGTM notably stood out with a remarkable increase of 7.66%, while Managem gained 3.40%. The cement sector also contributed to the overall recovery, with Holcim Maroc and Ciments du Maroc experiencing increases of 3.44% and 5.07%, respectively.
This second consecutive day of gains allows the market to distance itself from its recent lows after a period marked by significant selling pressure. The crossing of the 17,300-point threshold signifies an initial signal of recovery, even though the MASI index continues to be considerably below its early-year levels. In terms of individual stocks, Delta Holding emerged as the highest gainer, up 9.78% to 49.40 MAD, followed closely by Zelidja, which surged by 9.63% to 249.95 MAD. Other notable gains included SGTM, which rose by 7.66% to 590.00 MAD, Vicenne up 6.18% to 305.00 MAD, and Stroc Industrie rising by 6.17% to 154.00 MAD.
Conversely, BMCI recorded the most significant decline of the session, dropping by 2.99% to 551.00 MAD.
