Morocco's Fashion Federations Unite to Safeguard Independent Retailers

Strategic Alliance to Support Independent Fashion Retailers in Morocco

On November 5, 2023, a significant collaboration was established between Morocco's National Federation of Clothing (FNH) and Italy's Federazione Moda Italia-Commercio (FMIC), marking a pivotal moment in the effort to safeguard independent fashion retailers. This memorandum of understanding aims to launch joint initiatives designed to combat commercial desertification, bolster urban revitalization, enhance community cohesion, and contribute to the creation of more livable, inclusive, and safe environments across urban centers.

The agreement, which encompasses eight articles, acknowledges the vital economic role that independent fashion retailers play in terms of employment and social impact, as well as their contribution to the vibrancy of urban centers, historic districts, and neighborhoods. These retailers not only enhance the quality of life in the areas they serve but also strengthen social ties among citizens, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Both federations emphasize the importance of initiatives like the Cities project, spearheaded by FMIC, which seeks to highlight the significance of the tertiary market as a driving force for development. This project promotes a new urban vision grounded in sustainability, community engagement, and a strong sense of identity. The federations assert that urban safety, while essential, must be complemented by policies that promote urban revitalization, prevent social vulnerability, and encourage inclusivity and participation among citizens.

Furthermore, they express a commitment to enhancing European cooperation to elevate the fashion retail sector and ensure its integration into public policies. This collaborative effort is expected to not only support independent fashion businesses but also to enrich the cultural and economic landscape of Morocco.
