Foreign Investment in Morocco's Stock Market Reaches 220 Billion Dirhams

Significant Growth in Foreign Holdings of Moroccan Shares

The Moroccan financial landscape has experienced a notable surge in foreign investment, with foreign investors holding shares worth 220 billion dirhams by the end of 2025. This represents an impressive increase of 21.2% compared to the previous year, as reported by the Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC). The upswing in share values has been significantly influenced by the Casablanca Stock Exchange's benchmark MASI index, which has demonstrated a remarkable growth of 27.6% over the same period.

The AMMC's latest report on foreign investments in financial instruments provides valuable insights into the structure of these investments. It reveals that foreign holdings accounted for 21.2% of the total market capitalization in Morocco. Among these holdings, strategic stakes dominated, representing nearly 89.4% of the foreign investment in listed shares, while contributing to 18.9% of the overall market capitalization. Moreover, minority holdings were identified as accounting for only 2.2% of the total market capitalization and 8.3% of the free float, indicating a concentrated investment approach by foreign entities.

Interestingly, the trajectory of foreign holdings has seen a consistent recovery following a dip from 209 billion dirhams in 2021 to 156 billion dirhams in 2022. This downturn was followed by a gradual increase to 168 billion dirhams in 2023 and 182 billion dirhams in 2024. The cumulative increase between 2022 and 2025 has been approximately 41%, aligning with the gains observed in the MASI index during the same timeframe. This recovery underscores the resilience and attractiveness of the Moroccan stock market for foreign investors, reinforcing Morocco's position as a key player in the regional investment landscape.
