Significant Growth in Morocco's Banking Sector
In a recent announcement, Bank Al-Maghrib revealed that the total amount of outstanding banking loans in Morocco has exceeded 1.3 trillion dirhams as of the end of September 2026. This represents a remarkable increase of 12.2% compared to the same period last year, underscoring the robust growth of the banking sector in the country.
The central bank attributed this significant growth to a rise in loans extended to non-financial agents, which saw an increase of 11.2% year-on-year. Additionally, loans directed towards financial agents grew by 16.9%, further contributing to the overall expansion of banking loans in Morocco.
Moreover, data from Bank Al-Maghrib indicated a substantial increase in loans provided to private non-financial businesses, which rose by 13.8% compared to the end of September 2025. This surge is largely due to an 18.9% growth in equipment loans and a 13% rise in real estate financing, along with a 17.1% increase in treasury facilities. These trends highlight the growing confidence in the business sector and its increasing reliance on banking support for growth and expansion.
On the consumer front, loans directed towards households recorded a more modest annual growth of 3.5%. This increase was driven by a 2.6% rise in housing loans and a 5.4% increase in consumer loans, indicating a steady demand for credit among Moroccan families. The data reflects a continued momentum in banking financing across various economic activities, with corporate loans expanding at a faster pace compared to household financing, showcasing the dynamic nature of Morocco's financial landscape.
