Marrakshi Life Launches Its First Store at La Mamounia in Marrakech, Elevating Home Design

Marrakshi Life Unveils Boutique at La Mamounia, Marrakech

Marrakech, a city renowned for its vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes, welcomes Marrakshi Life's first retail store nestled within the lush gardens of the iconic La Mamounia hotel. This boutique signifies a remarkable milestone for the fashion and lifestyle brand, which has gained a reputation for its exquisite handwoven textiles and has attracted a loyal clientele that includes notable personalities like Erykah Badu and Lauren Santo Domingo. The opening not only enhances La Mamounia's offerings but also showcases Marrakshi Life's ambition to carve a niche in the home and hospitality sectors.

On Thursday, the founders of Marrakshi Life, the dynamic couple Randall Bachner and Nicholas Minucciani, shared insights with WWD regarding their collaboration with the talented creative director and designer Gabriella Khalil, who designed the store's captivating interiors. This collaboration marks Khalil's debut project on the African continent, making it a significant moment both for her and for the brand. Minucciani expressed that La Mamounia was a natural choice for their first store, stating, "It is an iconic institution, and its guests align with our customer. We’re a destination brand." Coincidentally, the official opening also coincided with the couple's fourth wedding anniversary, adding a personal touch to the event.

Inside the store, Khalil's unique escapist aesthetic is beautifully manifested in a tent-shaped vitrine greenhouse that invites visitors into a serene shopping experience. Known for her expertise in hospitality and design, Khalil curated the space, which features curtains crafted from 200 meters of Marrakshi Life’s signature textiles. The warm and inviting atmosphere is a testament to the harmonious blend of fashion, art, and culture that Marrakshi Life embodies.

This store launch is a testament to the brand's strategic focus on the home sector, with a carefully curated selection of furnishings developed in collaboration with local artisans. Minucciani pointed out, "We’re developing furniture and objects using our textiles, and we expect home to account for a larger portion of our business." The store showcases bespoke furniture from Maison Sarayan, custom rugs created with a female-led rug studio by Sana Benzaitar, exquisite ceramics from Lrnce, and striking decor pieces like a 1960s Italian Tornado chandelier by Elio Martinelli, along with a distinctive 1990s French table sourced from the Marrakech-based showroom Salmane Design.

Founded in 2013, Marrakshi Life emerged from the creative minds of Bachner and Minucciani, who transitioned from careers in photography and media in New York to establish a brand that champions gender-fluid, contemporary fashion. The couple has meticulously built a vertically integrated company that collaborates with local artisans to produce unique, made-to-order pieces that resonate with customers globally. Earlier this year, they expanded their offerings by launching a home capsule, seamlessly transitioning their fashion ethos into interior design.

Looking ahead, the La Mamounia store could serve as a prototype for Marrakshi Life's future retail strategies. Minucciani expressed excitement about the potential for expanding the brand’s presence in hospitality settings, stating, "If this works, we’d like to explore locations with other luxury properties and groups. We see an opportunity to bring Marrakshi Life to a specific audience through hospitality settings." With its rich history and luxurious ambiance, La Mamounia, which opened in 1923 as an 18th-century estate gifted by Sultan Mohammed Ben Abdallah, provides the perfect backdrop for this innovative venture. The hotel has long been a sanctuary for historical figures and artists, including Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela, making it a fitting location for Marrakshi Life's debut store.
