American Initiative to Foster Football Skills in Morocco
The American Embassy in Morocco has launched an impactful initiative known as the 'Power of Football' caravan, which commenced on November 2, 2026. This exciting program is designed to engage young players and coaches across the country, promoting skill development and inclusivity through the beautiful game of football. Notably, World Champion Jessica McDonald, a key figure in the U.S. women's national team that triumphed in 2019, and former international Greg Garza, who celebrated success in 2018 with Atlanta United in Major League Soccer, are leading the caravan.
The caravan began its journey in Médiouna, near Casablanca, where they hosted a training session for thirty-five coaches and a festival for one hundred children, emphasizing the importance of football as a tool for youth empowerment, particularly for young girls. Following this, the team is scheduled to visit Rabat for a roundtable discussion focused on the transition of athletes into different careers, and then move on to Chefchaouen. Christopher Deutsch, the American Consul General in Casablanca, highlighted the significance of football in strengthening ties between Morocco and the United States, especially in light of Morocco co-hosting the upcoming World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal in less than four years.
Mohamed Amine Zariat, the founder of Tibu Africa and a long-standing partner of the American Embassy since 2012, expressed optimism that this caravan will enhance the practices of Moroccan educators in sports. The caravan is set to conclude on Saturday, November 7, 2026, with a public gathering at the Royal Yacht Club in Tangier, marking a vibrant end to this inspiring initiative.
