Agadir's Grand Stadium Receives 23 MDH Investment for Urban Park Maintenance

Significant Investment for Agadir's Grand Stadium

The Agadir Souss-Massa Development Company has recently unveiled an investment of 23 million dirhams aimed at enhancing the landscaping and irrigation systems around the Grand Stadium in Agadir, Morocco. This initiative is part of a broader effort to prepare the stadium for international events, particularly the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal. The funding will cover maintenance activities over a four-year period, focusing on the upkeep of 152 hectares of green spaces that are not directly associated with sports facilities.

This project follows a significant investment of 3.5 billion dirhams previously allocated for upgrading the stadium's infrastructure. The latest funding will ensure the aesthetic and functional aspects of the surrounding areas are well-maintained, contributing to the overall attractiveness of the stadium as it gears up for global attention during the World Cup. The current landscaping efforts will enhance the stadium's surroundings and include the management of an extensive irrigation system designed to support the lush greenery.

Comprehensive Urban Park Development

The initiative encompasses a substantial area of 152 hectares, which has been divided into five distinct zones. These include an 8-hectare access road, a 12-hectare esplanade, and 108 hectares of landscaped parks. Additionally, the project will also integrate the natural sector of Oued Laouar, covering an area of 24 hectares. To support the maintenance of these green spaces, an efficient hydraulic system is being implemented, which will manage and maintain three large reservoirs with a total capacity of 17,400 cubic meters. The irrigation plan includes 90,000 meters of piping, 400,000 linear meters of drip irrigation network, and 293 solenoid valves, ensuring that the park remains vibrant and well-watered.

As part of these landscaping efforts, over 30,000 trees have already been planted within the vicinity of the Grand Stadium, contributing to the creation of a serene urban park. The total investment dedicated to this urban and landscaping project has surpassed 500 million dirhams, which also includes facilities such as an Olympic swimming pool and a large hall that are integral to Agadir's sports complex.

Furthermore, Agadir Souss-Massa Development Company has earmarked an additional 21.9 million dirhams for the development of parking areas and public spaces across various sites in the city, reflecting a commitment to modernizing urban infrastructure in Agadir.

The ongoing modernization efforts at the Grand Stadium have seen the awarding of several contracts, with the first lot, valued at 1.08 billion dirhams, focused on substantial construction work. The National Agency for Public Equipment (ANEP) has also awarded three additional contracts totaling 2.419 billion dirhams. These upgrades aim to meet FIFA's technical and functional requirements in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup.

In total, the investments related to the various projects initiated for the Grand Stadium now approach 3.5 billion dirhams, highlighting the extensive transformation underway to elevate the Adrar Stadium to international standards.
