Agadir's Investment March: A Call to the Moroccan Diaspora
The beautiful city of Agadir recently played host to the second edition of the Investment March, a significant event that took place on October 28-29, 2023, attracting over 260 participants eager to explore economic opportunities in the Souss-Massa region. This year's attendance marked a substantial increase, doubling the numbers from the inaugural event held in 2025, highlighting the growing interest and commitment of the Moroccan diaspora towards the region's development.
The event was orchestrated by the Cluster Souss Massa Promotion and brought together a diverse array of participants, including institutional representatives, regional economic actors, and networks of Moroccans from around the globe. The opening ceremony on October 29 featured an inspiring speech by Karim Achengli, the President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council. He passionately addressed the Moroccan diaspora, emphasizing the vital role they play in contributing to the development of their homeland.
During the forum, attendees were introduced to various investment support mechanisms and opportunities for value creation within the region. Key organizations such as the Regional Investment Center (CRI) Souss-Massa, Maroc PME, and the Regional Development Company dedicated to tourism and small to medium enterprises (SDR TPME Tourism) participated in the discussions. The event served as a platform for exchanging ideas on how to transform informal networks into structured entities capable of executing impactful initiatives.
Moreover, the initiative FikraMRE was unveiled, showcasing the contributions of Moroccans worldwide in terms of ideas and skills, extending beyond mere financial support. A total of 14 delegates from six European countries and Canada attended the event, underscoring the international reach and importance of the diaspora's involvement. Driss El Yazami, President of the Council for the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME), called for the strengthening of diaspora networks to facilitate sustainable partnerships with Moroccan institutions and economic players.
Looking ahead, the organizers are committed to continuing these efforts through actionable initiatives over the next twelve months. They aim to establish a network of economic ambassadors from Souss-Massa, which currently boasts over 130 members. Excitingly, the third edition of the Investment March has already been scheduled for October 28-29, 2027, in Agadir, promising to build upon the successes of previous gatherings.
