The Incredible Journey of 'Chés Bo'Frères En 4L' from Namps-Maisnil to Marrakech

Pierre Bergot and Louis Caumartin, two determined brothers-in-law, are gearing up for an unforgettable adventure as they prepare to participate in the 2027 4L Trophy, a rally that combines sporting challenge with charitable engagement. Originating from Namps-Maisnil in the Somme region of France, they have set their sights on a remarkable journey that will take them all the way to Marrakech, Morocco. With the rally scheduled to begin on February 15, 2027, the duo is enthusiastic about the experiences that lie ahead, aiming to not only complete the rally but also to document their adventure along the way.

The Preparation for the Rally

The idea of participating in the 4L Trophy was born during a family meal, when Louis proposed the challenge to Pierre, who readily embraced the opportunity. Their quest for the perfect vehicle led them to Fécamp, where they purchased a 1978 Renault 4, affectionately known as a "4L." This particular model holds a unique history, having successfully traversed the Sahara Desert in a previous rally. "We want to preserve its story, so we haven't altered its original colors; it remains beige and orange," shared Louis. They have made just a few modifications, such as adding a roof rack to carry spare tires and optimizing the back space by removing the rear bench seat to make room for essential supplies, including clothing, personal items, and food for their long journey.

The financial aspect of their adventure has also been a significant undertaking. With registration fees, vehicle modifications, and sponsorship efforts, the total budget is approximately €10,000. The brothers-in-law have been proactive in securing support, managing to convince around fifteen sponsors within just a few months. "Every expense needs to be accounted for, and we have meticulously calculated our budget to ensure we stay on track," Louis explained. The duo, both 25 years old, is excited about the challenge ahead and is resolute in their goal to finish in the top 100 of the competition. Their families are equally supportive, planning to cheer them on at the finish line in Morocco. "We hope to return with the 4L in early March," Pierre stated, as anticipation builds for their remarkable journey.
