European Investments in Morocco See Significant Growth
In a remarkable development for Morocco's economy, European direct investments have surged to around €22.7 billion in 2025, reflecting a notable growth rate of 7.1% compared to the previous year. This data, released by Eurostat, highlights a stark contrast to the overall decline of European investments outside the EU during the same period. By the end of 2025, the total value of existing direct investments in Morocco had reached €22.681 billion, an increase of approximately €1.5 billion from €21.176 billion recorded in 2024.
It's important to note that these figures represent the accumulated value of European direct investments in Morocco, which encompasses both the existing investments and their associated financial relationships, rather than new financial flows recorded within the year. Eurostat employs a methodology that considers direct investment relationships when an investor holds at least 10% of the voting rights in the relevant entity.
The uptrend in European investments in Morocco occurs against the backdrop of a decrease in total EU direct investments abroad. A report released by Eurostat on November 5 indicated a 2.3% decline in these investments, dropping from €9.701 trillion in 2024 to €9.479 trillion in 2025. Conversely, foreign direct investment stocks held by non-EU investors within the EU fell by 2.8%, settling at €6.988 trillion, down from €7.186 trillion in the previous year.

On the other hand, the inflow of foreign direct investment to the EU was also led by the United States, which accounted for €2.075 trillion, representing 29.7% of the total, followed by the United Kingdom with €1.262 trillion and Switzerland with €602 billion.

The European report emphasized the continued prominence of special purpose entities within the landscape of foreign direct investment, as these entities represented 26.2% of the total stock of European investments outside the EU by the end of 2025, compared to 33.3% of existing foreign direct investments within EU countries.
