Historic Inauguration of FIFA Arena Pitch in Benguerir
In a remarkable step towards promoting youth engagement in sports, Morocco has officially unveiled its first FIFA Arena pitch, located at Omar Ezzahraoui School in Benguerir, situated within the Rehamna province. This pioneering facility was inaugurated on a Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the country's commitment to making football more accessible for children. The project, launched in 2025, aims to establish local sports facilities adjacent to schools and in underserved neighborhoods, ensuring that young individuals can enjoy and participate in football activities regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds.
The development of this pitch is the product of a collaborative effort involving several key stakeholders, including FIFA, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the OCP Group through its EVOSPORT subsidiary, and the ministries of National Education and Youth and Sports. In a video message delivered during the inauguration ceremony, FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the organization's ambition to construct at least 1,000 mini-pitches globally by the time of the 2031 Congress. Specifically, Morocco's program aims to install 30 pitches throughout the nation, a goal aligned with an agreement signed in Rabat in 2025.
Furthermore, the inauguration event also served as a platform to announce the upcoming FIFA Arena Kids Cup Morocco 2027. This exciting tournament is set to bring together young athletes from the first ten regions that will benefit from these newly established facilities. The ceremony was attended by Rehamna Governor Aziz Bouignane, representatives from the collaborating organizations, and notable figures in Moroccan football, all of whom celebrated this significant advancement in the realm of youth sports.
