Strengthening National Security in Morocco
In a recent session held in Rabat, Morocco’s Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit articulated the Ministry of the Interior's commitment to enhancing national security through increased vigilance and proactive measures aimed at neutralizing potential threats before they escalate into attacks on citizens or vital infrastructure. During a presentation to the Committee on the Interior, Territorial Collectivities, Housing, and Urban Policy in the House of Representatives, Laftit outlined the ministry's strategic approach within the context of its draft sectoral budget, reassuring parliamentarians that all preventive security operations are conducted in strict adherence to the rule of law and under the vigilant oversight of the appropriate judicial authorities.
Counter-Terrorism and Public Safety Initiatives
Highlighting the persistent nature of the terrorist threat, Laftit emphasized the necessity for a proactive stance characterized by early detection and preemptive action. He stressed that effective counter-terrorism strategies cannot solely hinge on enforcement measures; rather, they must encompass broader initiatives aimed at preventing violent extremism from taking root. This comprehensive approach involves protecting the youth from hate speech and incitement to violence while actively fostering values of moderation and tolerance, thereby strengthening their connection to the nation's fundamental principles.
Moreover, addressing crime reduction and enhancing public safety are central to the ministry's mission. Laftit pointed out that a decrease in criminal activities is achieved through improved operational efficiency, heightened engagement with the community, and expedited responses to public concerns. He proudly announced that the clearance and resolution rate for criminal cases surged to an impressive 90% in 2025, serving as a testament to the capability and readiness of Morocco's security services. This effectiveness is further evidenced by a structured and visible security presence, ongoing resource mobilization, and the flexibility to adapt to the specific needs of urban areas, rural regions, densely populated districts, and seasonal tourist hotspots.
Laftit also cited the seamless execution of the legislative elections on September 23 as a key example of operational coordination, where the collaboration between local administrative authorities and security forces allowed citizens nationwide to exercise their constitutional rights safely and serenely. Furthermore, in response to natural and technological hazards, the interior minister detailed significant investments aimed at enhancing emergency response capabilities across the Kingdom. This includes the completion of ten new emergency relief centers and the ongoing construction of five additional facilities in strategic locations, executed through partnerships with various stakeholders.
These initiatives are complemented by the establishment of six regional warehouses for the National Anti-Locust Centre, alongside dedicated funding to expand and strengthen 15 administrative centers across different regions. Notably, the Civil Protection services, working in conjunction with local authorities and public forces, have effectively contained and extinguished over 300 forest fires across the nation, showcasing the ministry's commitment to safeguarding both lives and property.
