Marrakech Authorities Shut Down Unlicensed Food Processing Facility

Unlicensed Food Facility Raided in Marrakech

On October 29, 2026, a joint task force comprising local health, security, and municipal representatives executed a significant raid on an unlicensed food processing facility located in the Mabrouka neighborhood of Marrakech. This operation resulted in the immediate closure of the establishment and the destruction of a substantial quantity of food products that did not meet legal health standards.

The raid was conducted with the cooperation of the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) based in Marrakech, alongside representatives from the regional health directorate, local authorities, and the sixteenth police precinct. The initiative aimed to ensure compliance with health regulations and to safeguard public health within the region.

During the intervention, it was revealed that the facility was involved in the preparation of fried potato fingers, known locally as "الفريت," and pickled cucumbers, all without the necessary health and legal permits to operate such a business. Upon questioning, the facility's owner admitted to lacking the required documentation, prompting the joint committee to take immediate action by shutting down the operation.

As a result of the measures taken, over 200 kilograms of prepared potatoes and pickles intended for distribution were destroyed, and the owner was escorted to the sixteenth police precinct to file an official report and to initiate the necessary legal procedures. This operation underscores the commitment of Marrakech authorities to uphold food safety standards and protect consumer health.
