The city of Marrakech is currently embroiled in a troubling case of online fraud that has captured the attention of local authorities. The incident involves the director of a prominent educational institution who fell victim to a sophisticated scam while attempting to make a purchase through an online platform. The victim, seeking attractive offers presented on a website, was lured into providing sensitive information, including the serial number of his bank card and the PIN found on the back of the card. Trusting the website, he complied, only to be shocked later by a notification from his bank indicating a significant withdrawal from his account.
Upon investigating the financial transaction, the victim discovered that the withdrawn funds had been transferred to an account belonging to a woman located in Agadir, a neighboring city. Outraged by the breach of trust and the loss of his money, the victim filed a formal complaint. The cybercrime unit of the judicial police in Marrakech took immediate action, listening to the victim's account of events. Following an order from the Public Prosecutor's Office in Marrakech, instructions were issued to locate and apprehend the bank account holder to further the investigation.
This incident highlights the growing threat of online scams and the urgent need for vigilance among internet users. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution when sharing personal and financial information online, as cybercriminals are becoming increasingly adept at manipulating unsuspecting individuals.
