Akdital's Ambitious Plans for Healthcare Expansion in Morocco
In a significant move towards enhancing its market position, Akdital is set to enter a new phase of expansion within the healthcare sector. The management has outlined a robust strategy aimed at increasing the number of hospitals in Morocco while simultaneously broadening its international footprint. According to Ilyas El Harti, the Deputy General Manager, the company intends to leverage both the maturation of existing facilities and the development of new ones to drive growth.
Strengthening the Network and Financial Outlook
Currently operating 45 hospitals across 25 cities in 12 regions of Morocco, Akdital's strategy for the years 2025 to 2030 includes plans to expand to 59 facilities. This expansion is projected to introduce approximately 1,100 to 1,200 additional beds by 2028, with a focus on establishing five new Prime model hospitals in major urban areas. The management emphasizes that newer facilities typically reach profitability within their first full year of operations, contributing positively to the company’s financial performance from the subsequent year onward.
Moreover, Akdital is already active in Saudi Arabia, where two facilities are operational and four additional projects have been secured. Although the planned transaction in Tunisia is currently facing delays due to administrative procedures, the company is optimistic that progress will be made before the end of 2026. Despite a reported debt level of 4.9 billion Dirhams, which includes 1.5 billion Dirhams allocated for international development, the management anticipates a peak in debt metrics in 2026, with improvements expected from 2027 onward, driven by contributions from international activities and the maturation of older sites.
As a leading private healthcare provider in Morocco, Akdital competes with public university hospitals and the Mohammed VI Foundation for Health Sciences. The company focuses on inpatient care and specialized treatments while enhancing regional healthcare capacity. With a strong commitment to expanding its services nationally, Akdital plays a pivotal role in the Moroccan healthcare landscape, aiming to set benchmarks for quality and accessibility in medical care.
